I would 110% recommend this resort, and everything that it offers. I have absolutely no complaints. The staff was wonderful, the food was perfect, and the place was beautifully maintained. We went to the SPAzul inside of the resort, where I received the best massage I've ever gotten from Dennis. Our room was expertly cleaned by Marisol, that went above and beyond for us. The atmosphere was fantastic, I really enjoyed all the activities and music they had in the pool areas. It was a wonderful value for a wonderful place - No hesitation in recommending the property. We will definitely be back!

What Our Customers Are Saying

Written Review

"Nice Family Friendly Resort"
We had a very nice vacation with our three children ages 8-12. The resort was impeccably clean as was our villa. Rooms are perfect for families, we had a "C" unit which had an added bonus of a separate bathroom and upstairs master. Resort caters to families and retirees, and is quiet at night, which we appreciated. If you are going to Canun for a party scene, stay elsewhere. The beach is protected by Isla Mujeres, so it is swimable, shallow and great for kids. Resort provided sailboats and paddle boards are fun to use. Staff are friendly and our concierge, Benjamn, was kind and helpful. Resturants had acceptable variety, choices and service. Resturants at other Royal resorts, such as the Sands, offer variety and are included in all inclusive rate. Shuttles are available at limited times, but we found the bus more convienient and easy to navigate on the strip.
"BEST VACATION EVER"
I would 110% recommend this resort, and everything that it offers. I have absolutely no complaints. The staff was wonderful, the food was perfect, and the place was beautifully maintained. We went to the SPAzul inside of the resort, where I received the best massage I've ever gotten from Dennis. Our room was expertly cleaned by Marisol, that went above and beyond for us. The atmosphere was really great; adults only, so no kids running around/crying, but no one getting too out of control crazy. I really enjoyed all the activities and music they had in the pool areas. It was a wonderful value for a wonderful place - No hesitation in recommending the property or those who work there. We will definitely be back!
"An amazing week at the Royal Cancun"
Our family of 4 stayed at the Royal Cancun the 1st week of march 2015. We traveled with another family with children. Overall, we had a great vacation. We have traveled to the Caribbean many times and this is the 1st time we have a 2 bedroom suite - it is very nice for the kids to have their own space (8 and 11) and for us to have our. All the suites have a living room and dining room and a small kitchen. The suites are extremely clean. It is an older hotel but very well kept. The beds are conformable, the boys had their own room with two single beds. We had a pool view, which I recommend. Our friends had a lagoon view and it was a bit more noisy because of the street behind it. Overall, the resort is fairly small, so no matter where you are, everything is pretty close. The rooms all have big safes that can store a laptop computer. Also, there is WiFi in the rooms and even on the beach. The beach is beautiful and the water is calm and shallow. This is great if you have kids and also for us, because we could practice water sports (they have paddle boards, sailboats, kayaks). Their is a little pier from which we could jump of into the water and swim. The negative is that they beach is not very long, so you can not take long long walks. We did spend a day at the Royal Sands and their beach is totally different. It is very pretty and long, but a lot of the time, the sea is very rough, so there is a RED flag for swimming. However, it is worth spending at least a day there, as it is part of the all inclusive and there is a free shuttle that runs to the Royal Sands every 2 hours. The food was also excellent. There is not a lot of restaurant choices at the Royal Cancun (only two the Palapa and the Tratorria) both very good on top of the snack bar. However, there is plenty of variety on the menu that you will always find something to your taste. Also, you have access to the restaurant of the other Royal properties, so we had dinner at the Hacienda Sisal (Mexican) and lunch at the veranda of the Royal Sands. Both were also excellent. There is also room service that we never used, as we traveled with another family and often ate with them. And to top everything off, there is a bar and food service directly on the beach (so you don't even have to leave the beach to get lunch or a drink :) Also, this is an old time share, so a lot of people do cook in their rooms, so the restaurants were never full. For a party of 9, we barely had to wait a few minutes to get a table.
"Extremely Relaxing!!"
Beautiful property, great food and drink/ The beach area was fantastic. It was the perfect retirement celebration!! The only complaint I have is that Yoga classes were listed on the activities board, and everytime I went to the gym, there were no classes, and the girl at the desk did not know much English, and was of no help whatsoever.
"great vacation"
We stayed at the Royal Solarus in Cancun in February for a week. Marco Polo was a great restaurant. We ate there four nights. The entertainment was wonderful, different every night. We enjoyed the hot tub and the beautiful scenery. Can't wait to go back..
"Paradise with a pool bar."
This is a huge, sprawling complex. There a few sister resorts up and down the beach, and we walked to a couple of them. Your guest card gets you in to all of the other resorts, and we lounged by the various pools, sucking up margaritas as our bar tab cha-chinged like a Vegas casino. We sat at the swim-up bar much of time, getting drinks and food orders while in either of the giant pools. Dances at night. Being from Florida, the beach was nothing spectacular. Spectacular, but just like a fine South Florida beach. In fact, we felt like we were in Florida. Even the tv stations in our room were based in Miami. But still, this is a cool place, easy day trips to Telum and the ruins, drinks served up on the beach, able to use the facilities at the other resorts in the Royal chain. Heck, it's Cancun. How can you complain. I'm not a big fan of Cancun, but this place rocked it.
"Great as Always"
My wife and I have been going there for the last 15 years. This trip is our spring vacation which started 3-7 to 3-19.We are owners of 2 weeks there in November but just cant keep away. All inclusive for spring is awesome. So many eating places on and off the resort. The new Italian restaurant is awesome. The grounds are pristine as usual and the calm beach, which you rarely get anywhere slse,is awesome. This is not for partyers. Most of the people there are either owners that bring their kids and grandkids or just younger people with kids. For these people it is a great experience. The restaurants stay open until 1 or so,dont really know as I am asleep by 10pm,hehehe.Its slower pace than most and not at all a HOTEL atmosphere. Its usually all quiet by 9 or so,so all you partyers stay away. The help does everything they can for you.We know most of them by name now and they are quite glad to see us for a total of 4 weeks a year.Overall PERFECT!
"Excellente!"
From being helped by Jeremias, (bellman extraordinaire) to our front desk experience to our concierge to our housekeeper Leyla...all were terrific! All greeted us with "welcome home"! Everyone treated us like we were VIP guests. Loved the room we had, as it overlooked the Caribbean Sea....so relaxing! We participated in the wonderful aqua fitness class every day with Felix. It was a wonderful and relaxing week!
"Relaxing resort with great food!"
The Royal Cancun is a lovely resort with amenities to suit adults and families. We stayed in a 2bed/1 bath condo and it had full kitchen, dining for 4+, living, 2 balconies,a king and two twins plus a murphy bed in the living room. Not luxury but very clean and nice enough - everything is in excellent shape. Two large pools with plenty of chaise lounges and a beautiful beach with kayaks, sailboats, etc to check out for an hour. Beach has lots of chaise lounges and thatched palapas for shade. Restaurant food is excellent - order the banana waffles for breakfast! Theme dinners on different nights at the beach side dining - lobsters on Tuesdays! Italian restaurant was our favorite for dinner and worth the wait - the choices and food were excellent! Bars are adequately stocked for liquors and bartenders are friendly. The house wines are bland and there is no wine list for upgrades. Servers were all polite and attentive. We had a relaxing, quiet, very enjoyable spring break vacation here - the college kids go elsewhere!
"Excellent Vacation"
We stayed at this resort March 13-20. The resort was full with what appeared to be equal parts timeshare members and all-inclusive visitors. Room We had a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom suite which has two levels - a master suite on the second floor, which provided some privacy from the three kids we had with us. The room was very clean and comfortable. Food There are two restaurants on sight. La Palapas, which is a oceanfront, open air restaurant. Visitors can order from a menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner or eat from the buffet. The other restaurant is Trattoria, which is a la carte. We found the food at both places very good. The food at La Palapas from the buffet was a little repetitive. There is also a poolside bar that offers food for lunch only - we spent most lunches at this location. Beach The beach is visually appealing and good for swimming. The beach is not rough in this area of Cancun. There is a lot of boat traffic at the front of the beach, which may concern some but we did not have a problem with it. Pools There are two pools - one adult and one kids pool. There is really not much different between the two except the adult pool has a swim-up bar and the kids pool has a shallower area. Both are widely used by all guests - kids included. Service The staff are generally very helpful, courteous and friendly. Resort The resort is around 30 years old and you would never know. It looks new with the exception of areas in the rooms that are a bit dated. The staff work very hard and the grounds are very well kept and clean. There are a couple negatives that were not significant enough to not make this resort a 5, but they are worth a mention. The drinks are very good, but I like my pints and the all-inclusive visitors are only given draft beer. Canned beer is provided at an additional $4 cost. Not a big deal but not what we are used to when visiting other resorts. Also, after 10 PM there is nothing happening at this resort - no entertainment, no drinks - nothing. Didn't affect us but may be an issue for other visitors. There is 24 hour room service which came in handy. This resort does still have the practise of taking your room card for all food or beverage orders. It turned out to be a benefit as we didn't worry about carrying cash everywhere and at the end of the week we ended up inadvertently tipping less than we would otherwise for this reason. Our family really enjoyed our week here. If we were the type to return to a resort, we would not hesitate returning to this one.
"Great place to stay!"
Stayed here a week in March, all inclusive. Started out with Rafael at the front desk, he was more than accommodating. Gave us a very good room and he was very sweet. The room was very spacious and was kept very clean by Teresa. The beds were very comfortable. Edar at the beach bar was awesome and Sharon the waitress on the beach was a sweetheart. The food was very good although sometimes a little slow on service. But all in all they were great. The beach was a little shallow, great for kids. Overall a very good stay worth the price!!
"Awesome Hotel, All inclusive was wonderful!"
My room was looking right out onto the ocean It felt like I was on a cruise ship it was that close. The all inclusive included room service. In the morning had light breakfast delivered early to watch the sun rise!! Maid service was great. Have already booked again for December! Beautiful beach you can walk for miles!!! Many restaurants to choose from. Captains cove, Sisal, Poncho Willys, Buffet on site also excellent. Great variety or order off menu. Went there most of the time.
"Awesome"
This was our first trip to Cancun, will not be the last. What a fabulous place to stay. We have two teenagers and we all had a great time. Rooms were great, food was too notch and service was unbelievable. We had dinner on the beach , pizza delivered to our lounge chair, pia coladas in the pool.
"superb stay at The Royal with some minor minus.."
Just came back from 14 grate days at The Royal First of all i would like to say that this hotel and surroundings is just grate, the staff is very friendly and tries to do anything to make your stay as good as possible. I unfortunately got some stomach problems, but this was fast and efficiently delt with by the hotels own doctor. I got some shots, and was good the next day... The rooms are really good, included the beds, and cleaning is spotless. The all inclusive part is perfect, This is my first time to been served Black Johnny Walker and Chivas Regal 12 on the beach... The rooms mini bar was always topped up with soda, water and bear, and it also got a rack with whiskey, vodka, rum and tequila.. The restaurants was cool, clean and served all types of food, both full dinner and buffet. We used often the buffet part for both breakfast, lunch and dinner, the dinner part changed between different teams, Mexican, oriental, and so on.. Evan that all of the hotel is all inclusive, be prepared to use some money to tip. We found it easier to use Dollar than Pesetas witch was hard to change in smaller bills we tipped 1$ in the bars, 5$ int the restaurants and to the maids. You dot have to do this, but it feels ok, to appreciate the grate service, the beach is very clean and beautiful and there are no sellers of sunglasses or Rolex... The police is often driving by to check..Drinks and water is served at your chair.
"Great family vacation spot"
This was the first time share in Cancun. After some 49 years, it still has the same families and friends returning every year. Recently, they have opened it up to renters with an all inclusive stay. Most of the people are still owners that make sure their place is well maintained and taken care of. This is a great family vacation spot. There are lots older couples and younger families with young children. It is NOT a party spot or place for late teens or spring-breakers; they are not welcome and will be escorted out if they are loud or acting inappropriately. Owners are quite protective of keeping the place family friendly. There is a great kiddy pool that is shallow and often full of young kids playing with each other. The other pool is generally for the older guests and owners and has a great swim up bar. Their are two restaurants: a palapa that is right on the beach with a great view of the ocean and the island of Isla Mujeres. Lunch and breakfast are great, dinner can be a bit pricey. The new Italian restaurant has a great menu and wonderful food. The beach has some of the best sand in Cancun. The water is shallow for quite a way, making it great for little kids. Free sunfish, paddle boards, and kayaks on calm ocean.
"Perfect family vacation"
Nice 11 nights at a very clean and calm hotel. Many older (55-70 years)and families with younger kids(3-10years). No party 20ies. Nice food, ok alacarte and buff, not very hot or testfull. Big difference between waiters, some very nice(Juan for example), and some that just was... The poolbar was exellent(Angel), good drinks and tips on new drinks... Ok alcohol in the drinks. Cleaning/houskeeping real good, all hotel and beachproperty allways clean and proper. ONE alert, see that you dont get a room at lagoon-side, pretty heavy trafic all day, 2 file way to and from Cancun hotel area.
"Relaxation at the Royal"
The service was amazing. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating. The room was more than enough room for two. They restock your drinks every day but there are no snacks in the room which I would have liked instead of having to order room service if you didn't feel like leaving the room. Most of the time it was quick but if you order later at night it could take up to 45 minutes/1 hour. If you eat at the restaurants you will also have a wait, especially during dinner. The location was perfect if you don't want to stay in the hotel zone where it's noisey and crowded and this is a short bus ride if you wanted to enjoy the bars/nightlife. Overall this hotel was great and only gave it four stars because the food could have been better.
"Overall a great value"
Nice location. Property is kept nearly spotless. Vast majority of servers/workers are very friendly. Wi-fi in rooms and throughout property was great. Food service could be somewhat slow, but with the ocean view and atmosphere, it didn't bother me. Our concierge seemed kind and considerate at first, but seemingly purposefully dropped the ball on some various reservations we made once he found out we were not interested in any timeshares. There was very little pressure for timeshares however, which was great. The only complaint would be the tedious room key card/paper bill system they utilize for all-inclusive guests which requires you to sign after every meal or bar tab, even though the balance is $0. Overall a great place to stay.
"Clean rooms, good location"
Good sheltered beach for young kids. Nice rooms, food was fine but better if you took shuttle to royal sands (which is included). Decent service. My only complaints would be that the restaurant, La Palapa was a bit inconsistent. They seemed to push the buffet on you rather then letting you order a la carte. At our last dinner we were to we only had 4 entrees to choose from as it was lobster night. I even confirmed that I could not order from the menu. I later found that my sister and her family who sat down the same time as us (just had a different server) and the table beside them that came in after us were able to order off the menu. As well, if you need to leave early morning for a tour, pre order room service as they do not allow you to take any food outside of the restaurant (not even pastries).
"Absolutely loved it!"
I read every single Trip Advisor review for this resort (and many others) before making a decision on where to stay, and I am so, so happy we chose The Royal Cancun. We went as a couple and were looking for a quiet, relaxing trip, and we definitely found it here. I do think if you're looking for a huge hotel with fancy pools, lots of things to do, and lots of people, this isn't the place for you. We spent 75% of our time on the beach ordering drinks and relaxing, and it was perfect for that. There were empty beach chairs each day, so no competition to get one... in fact, the resort next door has such an over-crowded beach that dozens of people come each day and try to use our chairs, but employees very promptly tell them no. Some other reviewers complained about service, which is crazy to me. All the employees were so helpful and friendly. The service was often slow, but seriously, you're in paradise, just sit back and relax!! I do think having to wear a bracelet and use the room card to order didn't always make sense, but it didn't affect our trip in the least so it's nothing to worry about. We actually liked the beachfront La Palapa for our meals, even over the Italian restaurant for dinner. They often had theme nights with different foods, and everything was good! We are a younger couple, so we were not approached once about timeshares, so can't comment on that. Overall, we would definitely go back and recommend it to anyone going to Cancun!
"Wonderful and affordable family resort!"
My husband and 2 children stayed for one week at this resort. We had a wonderful time. The resort was beautiful and kept very clean. The beach is a very calm bay, much different than the rest of the cancun. Wonderful beach for children to play in. The rooms were spacious for a family of 4. We had a beachfront villa and the views were spectacular. The food was wonderful for breakfast, lunch and dinner at both restaurants. The only negative is there are only 2 places to eat on site. Both were great, but I'm used to more options at an all inclusive. You have to take a free shuttle to enjoy dining and pools at their sister resort only 15 minutes away. The shuttle service is very organized and easy though, and we enjoyed going to the sands to experience something different. Also, if you're all inclusive with a wristband, I'm not sure why we had to swipe our card every time we got any food or drink. Just to sign this slip stating $0. All other all inclusives we've stayed at, there's no constant swiping. It was just a bit annoying after a week, but it wasn't a bother. All in all, it was a wonderful and memorable trip and we would definitely stay here again!!
"Not a party place but perfect for young families and seniors"
If you want a safe beach, amazing staff and service, want to meet very interesting people from all over then look no further. The facility is great, rooms are spotless and complete. The ocean is magical and very safe with almost no surf-rip tides- since it is protected by Isla Majures. Getting anywhere from here is easy, the bus to other resorts in the chain is free, $1 if you take the local bus anywhere. Cabs are clean and safe. There are no safety concerns here at all. Although it is all inclusive, there `re many very very good places to eat on the strip and in town. The staff here are second to none. Being handicapped, I had several specific needs all of which were addressed at no charge and in a hurry. They have two Palaps with special walkways so I could actually go to the beach on my scooter! As well a special lift to raise and lower those with needs gently into the water. The grounds are equal to the nicest in any North American city. Not a party resort as noisy groups are quietly reminded from time to time by security but everyone is having fun and enjoying the complete facility such water arobics, yoga, card games, sailing, paddle boards etc. Before you know it, you will be packing your bags, hugging your favorite staff members and promising you will return for two weeks next year.
"A Great Value"
I stayed at the hotel for 4 days at the end of January and had a fantastic time. They have a fantastic beach (although no waves, but if you want waves you can take the shuttle to the Royal Sands) and two nice pools. I highly recommend the all -inclusive package, as the food at the two restaurants on site is fairly good and they have multiple options that honor the all-inclusive which are just a taxi or shuttle ride away. Captain's Cove and Hacienda Sisal were fantastic and well worth the taxi fare to get there. I recommend going to Captain's Cove on the early side and requesting a table outside to see the sunset. The two things to caution everyone about are the fact that the poolside service is extremely slow so order 2 drinks at a time or just order directly from the bartender, and the fact that they make you move rooms on Saturday, which is a real hassle. But for the money this hotel is a great deal.
"maintained with pride"
This was our first vacation to Mexico and I was very happy with the Royal Cancun. Our room was very clean, the pools were clean and appropriate for a 3 year old, most of the staff were so nice and helpful, and we enjoyed taking our daughter to some of the kids club activities they held. I would probably have given this property a 5 star if I hadn't subjected ourselves to the timeshare talk. Benjamin and Juan were polite and incredibly helpful at helping us plan some of our activities, but the young man who gave us our presentation afterward turned into a petulant child when we said we wouldn't be purchasing. Just made the remainder of our trip awkward. We did end up doing the all inclusive. I have heard some complain about it being a rip off, but we were very happy with the food from the different restaurants. YES...you have to take a shuttle..whoopdy-doo.....that's so you can get food from different kitchens. We did this numerous times with a preschooler in tow and it was not a problem. I loved the beach. It was shallow enough that my little one could wade out and i wasn't in a tizzy. We were able to have our lunch and drinks brought out to us and even the local vendors were respectable and didnt harass you if you shook your head when they approached.
"A beautiful place to stay and enjoy"
We have been coming to this resort every year since 1988, so obviously we love it. There are many wonderful things to recommend it... perhaps best, the place is only three stories high and is built with 200 units on a good stretch of beach. There is a LOT more there than first meets the eye, yet it's still very pleasantly quiet. It was the initial "Royal" resort (of five in the Cancun hotel zone and one more at Playa del Carmen, so you have access to all those other facilities as well as those where you are staying. The beach is large and always features calm water, but if you prefer waves you can take the resort bus over to the three eastern-facing resorts. The restaurants are very good, but we nearly always take a city bus in to the Walmart and buy groceries for the week. (When our kids were small, cooking light meals in the well-equipped kitchen was easier than dressing them to go out, and now it's just family tradition.) It has good free wifi. You can have all the towels you want from the sports desk. The staff is consistently helpful and well-trained, and we always love our maid (who cleans daily). There is a "Travel Desk"--Thomas More travel where you can arrange pickup from the airport and any excursions you desire at very fair prices. I recommend a day seeing Chitchen Itza and one seeing X-Caret including the evening "dances" which is a remarkable show. Coba' is also a very neat ruin to visit and less-visited than, say, Tulum. The units are 1200 sq ft with two BRs and one bath, a kitchen, dining area and living room with a balcony--perfect for families with mom, dad, and a couple of kids. If you have more people along, two Murphy beds in the living area are very comfortable. All-in-all, I'd say this resort is one of the nicest you'll ever find.
"Perfectly adequate"
Two friends and I recently stayed here for one night. It is clearly not a new resort, but it is well located and nice. We had a great room: a bedroom with a king, a bedroom with 2 twins and a sitting room with a murphy bed and a small kitchen. Everything was perfectly clean. The resort is not huge, but but the pools and beach are perfect. The tennis courts looked good and they had a small fitness room with a view of the beach. Most other guest were either families with small kids or senior citizens. As ladies in our mid 40's, we felt a little out of place. The beach chairs are great, as was the bar service. We had dinner at the restaurant for lobster night. Nothing spectacular, but very tasty. A good place to stay if you want a room with a kitchen and sitting area.
"New Years in Paradise"
We visited The Royal Cancun during week 52. We were in a 2 bedroom suite looking out over the beach. The room was very clean and spacious. We did not purchase the all inclusive but we ate several meals onsite and they where all wonderful. The onsite market was a huge plus as they sold the best guacamole we have ever had. The resort is very laid back and quite at night except for the occasional party boats that pass by each evening. This is a perfect resort for families. We will definitely return.
"The Largest Resort in Cancun"
The Royal has 3-4 resorts within the hotel zone where we had access to visit all of them. If you are looking for an all-inclusive resort, this might work the best since you can visit any of their resorts and enjoy whatever you choose. Some activities are not part of the all-inclusive, of course, however, there are plenty of activities you can enjoy without restrictions. I do have to say, however, this particular resort was built sometime in 1970s so it looks a little old but I think they renovated the entire building about 5 years ago and I could tell they are very sensitive about cleanliness that you won't have to worry about that. My mom and I had the entire suite (2 bedrooms, 1 kitchen, 1 bathroom, and a living room area) which was much more than what we needed/expected. We also had our own guide (provided by the hotel) who gave us detailed information about the activities, restaurants, things to do around the area and more. I called him the "walking bible". He was available 6 days a week and he can be reached at an extension for questions. I almost forgot to mention -- they have hotel shuttles that you can take advantage of. This, however, only goes around the hotel area within their hotels like The Royal Sands, The Royal Cancun, etc.
