Chelsea at Front Desk met us for our late check-in and was a tremendous help. Renovations are going on at the hotel and will not be completed until the end of January. Chelsea made sure that we had a quiet room with a view of a lovely formal garden. She also gave great recommendations for our late dinner. The meeting room the next day was set up well, with coffee, water, drinks and snacks. Lunch was included with our meeting. We requested in advance something vegan instead of the buffet that was served. The chef did an outstanding job with our lunch....a special, beautiful Mediterranean plate...and delicious!!

We just finished a week vacation at the Grand Sirenis. We booked through BookVIP and I have to say that I'm extremely pleased with the entire trip, all the way from booking through the conclusion of the trip. We got a phenomenal deal and had an excellent trip!

Written Review

"Customer Service - Housekeeping Manager Kizzie!"
After a long day of driving to Charleston we were surprised to find our 1st assigned room not made up. Disheveled bed, dirty bathroom, etc.. an employee was walking by just at that time and called housekeeping while we headed down to the front desk. Kizzie (Housekeeping Manager) Met me before I could talk to receptionist and profusely apologized and said she would make it right as soon as possible and even bought me a drink while I waited! I only waited 5-10 minutes (not even enough time to finish my drink) before I was given a better room! Kizzie then apologized, she really handled the situation wonderfully and I really appreciate that.. Thank you!
"Very nice hotel with a lovely staff"
Stayed here with my family and friends for 3 nights (9/28-10/1) for a family wedding. The hotel was convenient for all those who did not have a car. The rooms were spacious and very clean. I have only one complaint that the cafe that served coffee had very limited hours. At 2PM in the afternoon on a Saturday you should be able to get a cup of coffee. The concierge was great and helped us book a very nice tour. I would highly recommend this hotel.
"The King of Concierges is gone. Long live the Queen of Concierges!"
I booked the Courtyard because of Kevin McQuade, the concierge extraordinaire with amazing TA reviews. We always research and plan our own trips, but this time, based on the rave reviews, we were putting our vacation in Kevin's hands. I called him a few weeks before our stay to ask about planning our visit. He tossed out some ideas and then scheduled a conference call with me and my wife ON HIS NIGHT OFF! He spent 1 1/2 hours on the phone with us planning off-the-beaten-path experiences and great restaurants for all five days. We left a few options undecided, and when I called him back at the hotel, I was told "Kevin is no longer working here." I expressed my dismay, and was thinking about rebooking elsewhere. Then I got a call from Andrea Brennecke, Kevin's protege and now replacement, to review our calendar, and assure me she would take care of us. This was followed up by a call from the hotel's general manger to make sure everything was okay. From the moment we arrived at the Courtyard, the entire staff was friendly and helpful, notably Candace and Lucas. It was Andrea's day off so she left us an envelope with page for each day's activities with directions, brochures, and tips attached. We met her the next morning, discussed our plans, and made some changes based on her recommendations. We were impressed by her knowledge, enthusiasm, and delightful personality. So much so that we found ourselves checking in with her every day. Andrea is a gem. All her recommendations were spot-on for us. The value she added to our Charleston vacation is beyond measure. We did meet Kevin for a fascinating and atmospheric night tour of historic Charleston. His energy, expertise, and passion for his job and adopted city were extraordinary. I'm sure he'll be hired by another Charleston Hotel that will recognize his value. When that happens, the choice between a visit curated by Kevin or by Andrea will be a tough one.
"Great Location, Service in Historic District"
Well-located on north end of historic district, across from Marion Square and 10-minute walk south to City Market; then another 5-10 minutes to Broad St. and the Battery. Andrea the concierge was extremely helpful and friendly. Her advice really made our trip exceptional. Be sure to call a few weeks out for restaurant reservations and other plans, especially on popular weekends. Endless food choices. We went with: Cru Cafe, Coast, Hominy Grill for shrimp and grits, and Magnolia's for brunch. At Andrea's suggestion, we did the Tommy Dew walking tour, which was outstanding for his perspective on southern culture and history. A walking tour early in the trip will give you a better feel for the city. We also had a great beach day at Isle of Palms. As for hotel: $20/day self-park. There is a bike rack on the lower level toward the door. There are overflow spaces across the street during the week and behind the hotel on weekends; just ask at desk. Mini-fridge in room. Walgreen's 1 block west on Calhoun and King. Heated outdoor pool is a great place to relax after touring and before dinner, though I might suggest more chairs. Other main floor hang-out spaces are courtyard next to pool and front porch rocking chairs. Bistro happy hour at 5. Plenty of amenities in the right location, and the personal service makes this a great choice.
"How to do Charleston in 1 weekend"
If you visit the Courtyard Historic and don't visit the concierge Kevin M., you've wasted your time. Sorry, that's incorrect. If you don't visit Kevin, you've wasted your life in general. Kevin created the perfect weekend for us, complete with amazing restaurant reservations, kayak trips, cemetery walks, and he even took us on a wonderful private walk. Anyone going to this city for the first time, or the 100th time, should spend just an hour with this guy. Marriott hopefully does whatever it takes to keep this concierge. Same with the city of Charleston. He's the best!!!! When I return to Charleston (and I will), I will seek Kevin McQuade immediately, as I know he will plan many more things for us to enjoy.
"Amazing"
I am writing this review as I sit in my room on the morning of day two of a three night stay. All I can say is "amazing"...checked in yesterday at 1:00pm, room was ready when we arrived, checked in by a lovely woman (her name slips me) within 5 minutes I had my room keys and we were ready to start our vacation. Parking is $18 per day, you can either park in the lower garage or up top (outside). I would suggest trying to park in the garage if you can especially if you have lots of luggage as it's a quick shot to the elevator from the garage. The room: two queens, modern, and most importantly; spotless...and I mean spotless as I'm a stickler for cleanliness. You MUST stop by the concierge desk and speak with Kevin McQuade....his knowledge of Charleston and his ability to help you plan your stay is truly fantastic...ask Kevin for his city maps and you'll not be disappointed. Everything is within a 10-20 minute walk of the hotel. The staff at this hotel are the best I've encountered anywhere. We had dinner last night at Virginias on King and it was to die for. The best food I've ever eaten in my life is right here in Charleston. I will continue my review as we've only been here for one night by I must say, this hotel is incredible.
"Kevin McQuade makes this property a must!"
We were in Charleston Sept. 30-Oct. 4 and concierge Kevin McQuade made this trip one to remember! His knowledge about the area and enthusiasm are infectious. Based on reviews on tripadvisor, I contacted Kevin about 1 month before our trip. He spent almost an hour talking to me and my husband by phone so that he could get to know us and offer tailored recommendations. Our trip would not have been as wonderful without his guidance. Angel Oak and Middleton Place restaurants were not on my radar, but he urged us to try them. We are so glad we did! He also arranged a history walking tour with Ed Macy and an eco boat trip at Folly Beach with Gresh from Absolute Reel Screamer Charters. Both amazing experiences! Finally, Kevin came back to the hotel after working all day and took us on a night time walking tour. It was fascinating and something we wouldn't have done on our own. He even snapped one of the best pictures my husband and I have ever taken during our walk. Spencer at the front desk was also a gem. The location of the hotel is good--easy walk to lots of restaurants and shops. The only negative, and it was quickly remedied by Spencer, was the maid service. Our used towels were removed, but none left in their place. When we came back to freshen up for dinner, we didn't have a single bath towel, hand towel or washcloth. The tissues and toilet paper were also not replaced. That was odd, but really minor, and would not deter us from staying at this property in the future.
"Magnificent Seven"
We were in Charleston for a wedding, shocking I know.. The holy cities lives up to it's name and there were seven things that made this trip amazing. 1. The Courtyard Marriott is centrally located, updated, clean and truly a fantastic place to rest your head, have a quick swim to cool off or just lunge around and have a drink with Robbie the bartender. 2. Did someone say the name KEVIN McQuade? Simply the best Hotel Concierge on the planet. He literally planned our entire weekend for us including a night time sneak peek around the Battery. He is simply amazing, full of great ideas and without him we would just would have never experienced the greatest features of what Charleston has to offer. Did someone say KEVIN McQuade? 3. Hoon Calhoun, our culinary chef's tour guide around upper King Street. This man can spin a story and introduce you to the best chef's and food locations in Charleston. 4. Gresh, our flat boat guide to Morris Lighthouse, simply the best Sunday morning my wife and I have spent in twenty five years, hands down beat church any Sunday AM. 5. Jennifer of Oasis Taxi, simply the nicest, most friendly taxi driver in town. 6. Ed Macy, our daytime guide to the Battery; the stories, the history, the education are all top notch. 7. Kevin McQuade, he made this couples trip the best 5 day experience in Charleston one of our best weekends ever. We spoke to Kevin live before our trip, discussed our plans and he executed flawlessly. If you come to Charleston you can only get him if you stay at the Courtyard- a must!
"Great option for downtown"
Large, comfortable rooms in perfect location to explore Charleston. Ability to walk to all major downtown areas or take a 1-2 mile cab or car ride. Made staying in downtown a pleasant experience. Helpful staff added to the value.
"Personal service made the experience extraordinary!"
Choosing a hotel for a 6-day trip to one city can make or break the experience! We stayed at the Courtyard on points. Our room was very comfortable (for two friends meeting in a city to experience all it has to offer as well as enjoy each other's company). There were two employees at this hotel who made the experience exceed our expectations: 1) Shana, who was one of the front desk receptionists. She was so friendly and personable that she immediately put us at ease in a new environment. She was a wealth of information regarding the city and helped us every time we asked questions, got us excellent taxi service and was a ray of sunshine every day she was there! We had particular needs related to my friends recent foot fracture and Shana got us set up with transportation that would lessen my friend's walking. We felt taken care of. Kudos to her and kudos to Marriott for hiring her! 2) Adrienne (not sure of name), was one of the concierges. First, I loved the 8.5"X11" invitation to use the concierge that was posted in our room. It had very catchy phrases that made me curious how this concierge service would be "different". We certainly found out! Adrienne spent as much time as we needed, setting up our week for success. She was very forthright and informative re: restaurants to go to/others to avoid. She really listened to our individual needs and made changes accordingly. I also felt that she wasn't being preferential to restaurants/tourism attractions because they had a behind-the-scene deal. I often get that feeling with many concierges. She left the decisions up to us but supplied so much "insider" information that we felt we were set up so much better than when we started out. We only needed to see her once, and the week played out very well. Excellent service and true love of what she was doing showed through!
"Solid Choice"
Marriott Courtyards are typically reliable and this was no exception. Definitely one of the nicer Courtyards I have been in. Great location with easy, but a little pricy, parking. Location is perfect and we walked everywhere throughout the historic district. Got upgraded to a suite as there were plumbing problems in our room, the suite was very large and made for a much more enjoyable stay as we had our two kids with us. A lot of people speak highly of the concierge, Kevin Mcquade, and he's the best. He took the time to call us after we made the reservations and he spent about an hour on the phone helping us plan a 2 1/2 day visit, he was genuinely concerned about making sure we were going to get the most out of our visit and eat at the places that best suit what we're looking for. We followed his recommendations to the letter ( he had made all of the restaurant reservations in places that are to get a table at ) and it was perfect. He even set us up for an itinerary in Savannah and that was also perfectly done. So overall very pleased with this hotel and we'll be back..
"Great Mother/Daughter trip...fantastic Concierge"
My daughter age 22 and I planned a 3-night Mother/Daughter getaway in Charleston and the reason I booked this hotel was because of the great reviews I read about the concierge, Kevin McQuade! I wanted to maximize our stay and the things we did so I called Kevin about 2 weeks before our arrival date. We discussed our expectations and he was so thorough in assessing our interests and recommended tours, activities, and restaurants and outlined an itinerary for our 4-day stay. He made all the reservations for our tours and restaurants and when we arrived we met with him and he gave us detailed maps, directions and even recommendations on food choices! The detailed printed cards he gave us even had directions from our destination back to the hotel. From bike riding throughout the historic district, to an amazing, informative walking tour with Michael Trouche called Charleston Footprints, to a Barrier Island Eco Boat Tour located at the Isle of Palms, excellent dinner and lunch reservations, to a perfect 1/2 day at Kiawah Island where the bike riding on the beach was absolutely amazing. He sent us to beautiful cemeteries, unique alleys, and gave us some of the best spots to take fantastic pictures. We would never have seen all of this without Kevin's help. He is so enthusiastic and extremely knowledgeable! The highlight of our trip was the evening walking tour he took us on after he got off of work! The secret alleys and beautiful houses looked even more amazing at night!! This hotel is perfectly located and you can walk to the shops on King Street, the Marketplace, Waterfront and through all the streets of the historic district. Thank you Kevin for all your work and for making our trip so memorable. You are truly one of a kind and do a fantastic job!!
"Excellent hotel and excellent location"
Our 4 party group enjoyed our stay at the Courtyard by Marriott in Charleston the week of June 1. The concierge we worked with had some excellent dining and attraction suggestions, such as Angel Oak and the College of Charleston. Rooms were spacious and clean; only problem was a towel shortage one day, but this was quickly corrected. My husband and I both enjoyed the pool a couple of times - this was refreshing after walking all day! Ladies at registration were also great and had some good suggestions when the concierge was busy! Location was easy walking distance to the Market, lots of restaurants, College of Charleston and other attractions.
"Very nice hotel in a great location!"
We stayed here for 1 night while on our way to Savannah and Hilton Head. We had a day to explore Charleston and were not disappointed! The concierge was amazing! I wish I had gotten her name so I could tell everyone here, but she was great! We got upgraded to a suite which was very nice. Huge bathroom and sitting room area with a kitchenette. The lobby area is very nice too. When we got back from dinner, the lights were out in the lounge, but the bartender was still there. He said he was just closing up, but got drinks for us anyway. All of the staff that we dealt with were very nice. Lovely one night stay at this great hotel.
"Comfortable Hotel That Gets Most of the Details Right"
Located in the Historic District 1 block from King street (and the Francis Marion Hotel) and Charleston College. Nice attention to detail - crown molding in the hallways, wallpaper in the baths, lots of places to plug in your chargers. Doorman/bellhop at the front door was very helpful on rainy days. Check in was speedy and very friendly. Food is available at the Bistro in the hotel - there are also dozens of food options within a half mile. Transportation from the airport was $14 by shared cab. The pool is outdoors. The bathroom ventilation worked great in my room (one of my pet peeves). If you are celiac or need to eat gluten free, there appear to be very few options here and the bistro potatoes are deep fried and are likely contaminated. (Would like to hear a response from the hotel if they have gluten free menu options.)
"Great location. Nice hotel. Friendly staff."
Stayed 1 night while visiting my daughter at the C of C. Very clean and comfortable room. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Great location. Walked everywhere and never took the car out of the parking garage. Did not eat here simply because there are so many unique restaurants in Charleston. I was going to stay at either this Mariott or the Renaissance a few blocks away but because the Renaissance charges for WiFi, I stayed here. Would stay here again. THANKS.
"Great location, nice, comfy rooms"
1 night biz trip, had come last month but staid at the new holiday inn express at the end of meeting street, wanted to try on another hotel with a closer location. The rooms were nice and mine had a couch and a sitting area which I actually used in an impromptu emergency staff meeting. The bathroom was nice and overall rooms seemed to have been remodeled. The exterior and halls did not indicate any remodeling. I had breakfast in their cafe in the am, smoothie was terrible, turkey local sandwich was ok.
"Best Courtyard Anywhere !!!"
Hard to believe that a Courtyard in the historic district of Charleston is more up-to-date and modern than any Courtyard I have ever stayed in . . . but it is !!! The facility and staff are first class from A to Z. This Courtyard also has a world-class Concierge, one of only five certified at the "Master" level in the entire state of South Carolina. You will certainly enjoy your stay at this Courtyard, but I do have two items of caution: (1) Our room was on the front side of the hotel, facing one of the busiest intersections in the city . . . which resulted in non-stop noise until after 2:30 am . . . traffic, voices, laughter, sirens, party groups in the street and park across the way, etc . . . Highly recommend you reserve a room on the backside of the hotel; and (2) The hotel location is on the north end of the historic district, so it takes more time and energy to walk everywhere vs. a more central location such as the Marriott Renaissance located further toward the center of the historic district. Except for the two items just noted, this Courtyard is truly outstanding !!!
"Centralized Location"
Stayed here for 1 night. Last minute trip to Charleston. It was a great location to shops, restaurants & night life. Took about 20 minutes to get to Folly Beach which was the main reason for going. Rooms were what you expect from Courtyard, roomy (with fridge), clean, and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
"Very good hotel with many points of interest within walking distance."
Central location in the historic district of Charleston with fine restaurants within 1/2 mile walk as well as the flea markets and ferry to Fort Sumter Island. The hotel had very good accommodations with a supportive and kind staff. As with most Courtyards at Marriott there is only a modified continental breakfast available(but with good service and fine coffee). There was no way we could have eaten at all the fine restaurants in the area with most four star or better lunch and dinner.
"Perfect stay and welcome surprise"
Wanted to use some of my Marriott points for our stay, which is the main reason we chose this property. Was going on our first weekend trip with the baby as well, which added some stress. I will never be as happy as we were at arrival when we were upgraded to a suite--granted I am a Marriott Gold member--but not expecting it and then having the ability to have the baby in a separate room for naps/early bed time/etc truly made our trip. Anyways, check-in process was simple and for reasons above, was great. Location-wise, the hotel is almost perfect. It's on the same road that goes to the Aquarium and Fort Sumter ferry and is an easy walk. Is a block from King Street, which has the good shopping and less-touristy restaurants. The hotel is a bit of a walk from the "heart" of downtown though--about 10 minutes--but wasn't a big deal for us. Our room was huge--separate living/kitchen area and double vanity in the bath. The "king" bed was a hotel King--always seems a little smaller. We had no cleanliness issues and the room was quiet. It helped being on the top floor and we even had a little balcony. Having to spend more time in the hotel room than we did pre-baby, these things were all nice features. Even the hotel provided pack-n-play was clean and in good shape. It's been mentioned already, but definitely check out the concierge. Kevin does a great job and is a wealth of knowledge. We were able to fill up our 2 1/2 days of visit with mostly walking to suggested areas, and his dinner recommendations were excellent. Downsides: bed wasn't the most comfortable bed on earth, but it's a Marriott, not a Westin--we weren't expecting magic. The pillows were pretty lacking though, and I realized we could have called for more, but the 4 pillows were the equivalent of 2 normal pillows. Overall, for a Courtyard Marriott, this place is top notch. For what it is--a 3 Star hotel--it does an excellent job of fulfilling needs and is a great property to consider if you're looking to not break the bank.
"Aniv Trip to Chucktown Holy City***** Holy Fun Times"
Words can't express how Awesome our trip was Y'all... Thanks to Kevin Mcquade My Fav #1 Concierge who lined up a jam packed week of Awesome Local activities to keep us busy. We chose Charleston, SC because A) it was our Aniv B) Never been here C) never heard a bad thing said about this Southern City D) we had a friend move to James Island- the person who introduced us. We could see a new city and visit with our friend. Win/ Win. I will say Vacations are SOOOOO much better when you have an agenda and Kevin made sure we fit everything We talked about in our 4 days at the Marriott. What I loved about Kevin is he made sure he spoke with My husband and Myself not just Me to get a feel for what We liked to Do. From the time we entered the hotel it felt like Home. Some Top Things that We Both Really Liked that we would have not have done and I HIGHLY recommend doing are... Chef's Tasting Tour. This was great way to meet and talk to some talented chefs and get a behind the scene look and feel for what they do. Cypress Craig Diehl knocked our socks off. Walking Tour with Anne Herron who is a 13th generation Charlestonian. HRH has been to her house :) Private Boat Ride to Morris Island where we found 10 Sand Dollars. Brew Cruise. dining at Fig. Kevin made all our reservations to all the places that took them. Gave us note cards on how to get there and chef's recommendations on the back. Kevin also gave us a map of where the best public restrooms were bc apparently there aren't many of them around. One of our Best Trips EVER!!! When you meet someone who is passionate about what they do and love what they do- it doesn't get any better than that. Standing Ovation to the Staff of Marriott and Kevin Mcquade for making our trip Perfect and Memorable.
