We just finished a week vacation at the Grand Sirenis. We booked through BookVIP and I have to say that I'm extremely pleased with the entire trip, all the way from booking through the conclusion of the trip. We got a phenomenal deal and had an excellent trip!

Written Review

"A good 3 1/2 star hotel in Charleston!"
Although Trip advisor does not have a 3 1/2 star rating, this is what the rating should be! Definitely not a 3 star but 4 star rating is overstated. The staff was very nice and we had a large room (sleeps 4 when you open the couch)with a sitting area which was well decorated but overall the hotel needs a major facelift. The bathrooms need updating, the elevators are old and slow and overall the lobby needs updating. Having said this, it's in a good location within walking distance of what you want to see in Charleston or an $8 taxi ride to the Market area. The alternatives were higher priced and the ones that were closer to Francis Marion pricing were disappointing when we passed them from the outside. Suggestion: the hotel offers 3 different types of breakfasts from $9 per person (continental) to hot buffet or choose off the menu. If you are looking for something different there is a Panera Bread less than half a block away on Calhoun which is a really good value too.
"C of C Visit"
We stayed here for a visit for my Granddaughter who is at the College of Charleston. The lobby is beautiful, the staff was great and amazingly friendly. The location was also absolutely wonderful and very accessible to and from the College. We were accommodated with an early check-in which was a great !!! I love the historical look !! Bed was very comfortable!! Loved the location, easy access on and off 1-26. My Daughter and I will be staying there for Phi Mu Family Weekend in October!!!
"Wow!!!!"
This hotel rocks. Stayed here on our road trip up to NJ before our stop in VA. The rooms are excellent in fact everything about this place is top notch!! Set in the heart of Charleston across from Marion Square, this historic hotel has a full-service Spa Adagio and an on-site restaurant serving classic southern cuisine. The French Quarter is 1km away. Free WiFi and a flat-screen TV with high-definition cable channels. Extras include a desk and custom-made vanities. They even have Live jazz music along with cocktails is also available at the hotel's Swamp Fox Bar.The College of Charleston, the Gibbes Museum of Art and the Charleston Museum are all within walking distance of the Hotel. This hotel also borders the King Street shopping district.
"Francis Marrion is a beautiful Hotel with an even better staff"
When reading the reviews of this beautiful Hotel (it's 92 years old!) I realized that the bathrooms were small-VERY small. But when I saw the room I was surprised. It also was rather small. After speaking with the desk personnel I figured That there was nothing I could do. So as I was sitting in their glorious lobby--I get a phone call from the desk clerk that I could get an upgrade. I was 1 happy cruiser (We were spending only 1 night there to leave in the morning for a 10 day cruise). They went out of their way to make a unhappy customer into a very happy customer. With all the bad reviews--I was certainly going to give MY personal experience with this Hotel. It was wonderful--the staff really helps make this a very fantastic experience. And to really make your experience unique--there are DOOR MEN. Yup--you never have to open the front door! Hilton doesn't have THAT. This hotel is a step back into the gracious past that Hotels today can only dream about.
"Friend of Francis..."
Great rate from a Hotwire, so got my pick by grab bag. Corner room, 7th floor. Clean and cozy and comfortable bed. Small, compact bathroom understandable for this historic hotel. In the heart of everything old Charleston, restaurants, bars, shops, & people watching. Starbucks on 1st floor. Used valet parking since only $4 more than do it yourself. Glad I did as later got a hotel text asking how everything is and was there anything they could do for me? "Yes" I said while out to dinner, "can valet get my shirt I left in my car?" They did and it was hanging in my room. Front desk people very accommodating. Definitely recommend a corner room as more interesting and less noisy. Noise in the halls of doors and people can be heard more than other places likely due to the historic nature in which it was built.
"Great Hotel!"
My sister and I just returned from a 3 night stay at the Francis Marion Hotel. This was our 4th visit to Charleston, but our 1st stay at this hotel. We liked our stay so much that we plan to stay here on our next visit. Great location (especially if you want to enjoy the shops and restaurants on King Street). Easy walk to the Battery and restaurants on East Bay. Our 2 double bed room was very spacious and was immaculate. I found the bed to be the most comfortable hotel bed anywhere. The bathroom was a bit small, but was fine for one person at a time. Buffet breakfasts in the restaurant were delicious and great value. Fitness center had a nice collection of cardio equipment. All of the staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful.
"Centrally located on King Street"
Hotel staff are gracious and accommodating. Stayed in Room 616 looking down King Street towards the fabulous shopping and numerous restaurants. Hotel warned guests of road construction being performed at night and provided ear plugs. Woke up about 1:30 am to loud sounds outside - should have worn ear plugs. Attended one day conference at hotel and room and staff service were excellent. Would recommend this hotel.
"perfect location of the historic area of town"
Everything in where you stay is about location. This one was the jackpot! This is located at one end of King st. which is a great place to start walking this beautiful town. From this location to the end is only 1 mile with plenty of stops in between. There is also a wonderful park across the street that has a farmers/craft market on Saturday mornings which is great! They have a great parking deck you can park in which is handy but does cost. The beds were very comfortable! They have free coffee station in the lobby. This hotel actually also has a great workout room with nice equipment and loose weights. If we come back to this town we will stay here again!
"Nice, old school hotel in central Charleston"
We booked the Francis Marion because 1) it was more authentic Charleston feeling, and 2) it was centrally located. The room was large, bed comfortable, and we actually had 2 bathrooms in our king bedded room (!) - was very handy as we both like to spread out in the bathroom. Service was good and the front door/bell staff was very polite and helpful. We ordered breakfast one morning - corned beef hash was very tasty, although beef and potatoes were separate. A good choice! One note - the rooms are not very sound-proof, so you can easily hear people getting in late at night, talking in the hallways, maid walkie-talkies, etc.
"Great location"
Great location in historic district, walking distance to everything. Perfect location if taking cruise out of Charlestown only 1/2 mile from port. We could see the cruise ship from our window the morning we left
"Excellent"
Stayed here for 1 night as part of our roadtrip, beautiful hotel set in the heart of charleston, in easy reach of local bars and restaurants, would recommend and if visiting charleston again we would definitely stay here again.
"1st Sunday"
As a fun shopping experience we went to Charleston for the 1st Sunday King St shopping, where they block all of Kings St. from vehicular traffic. The hotel is a marvelous old gem with our room a cross between days of old and twenty first century technology give it a try.
"Excellent location, amenities"
My wife and I were treated to an excellent stay at the Francis Marion while attending a professional development conference. Staff were professional and cordial; check in and check out was a breeze. Our accommodations were a bit snug (1 Queen bed, work desk, arm chair and desk chair, nice LCD TV) but the mattress and pillows were quite comfortable. The parking garage nearby is $17 a night, which stund quite a bit, but is customary for prime downtown space. Well situated near downtown luxury shopping, restaurants of all kinds, meticulously well-manicured historic home sites, easily walkable to the north, south, and east parts of the peninsula.
"Stay here on business"
Had a 2 day, 1 night business trip to the Medical College of South Carolina in Charleston. The Marion is downtown, step outside into a neighborhood of restaurants, coffee shops (try Kudu), shopping and bars. 10 minute walk to MCSC. Old school hotel, spacious room, free WiFi, convenient parking. Been there before will stay again.
"An excellent place to stay"
My daughter and I stayed here for just one night. We showed up at Noon, in a dirty car (after driving for 5 hours). The valet attendants were super nice, helped us with our luggage, and parked our car. The front desk gave us a very nice clean room on the 6th floor, with two queen beds. We went out for lunch and a walk, and then took our car and went to a show. When we returned at 1am, there was an attendant at the front desk who was very nice and took our key for the valet to park our car. We were only charged one valet parking fee. The hotel location is excellent, only a few blocks from everything. The rooms are well appointed and clean. Its true that not everything is new, but everything that mattered was great. Thank you for taking such good care of us!
"Belated Valentines Day"
Not sure this is fair but I have to start by saying we were comped the suite because we won the Lowcountry Local First Golden Ticket and not till when we showed up did we know just how nice a suite we had. The Harbor View Suite. It was 1000 square feet of nice. 2 Bathrooms, separate bedroom, and kitchen. We were ecstatic. We had a cocktail party for some friends on night 1 and had plenty of room for 20 people. We had lots to bring up to the room and they were always right on top of things. We needed a vase for the flowers my wife brought. Got it. Then I showed with flowers for my wife and needed another vase. Got it. $22 a day to valet not bad and we used it the first night and parked elsewhere on night 2. They charged us for both and we said something and they quickly took off the bill and apologized profusely. The lobby is gorgeous! Fresh water, coffee, and plenty of sitting room. The location is phenomenal. Right in the center of all things Charleston. Upper Calhoun, Marion Square, nice walk to Market. Really can't say enough. I checked the real cost and was surprised that it was not more expensive. The service, decor, and amenities were fantastic. Will recommend it highly to visitors to our area!
"Grand Historic Hotel"
The Francis Marion is a grand historic Charleston hotel. Located right in the King Street shopping district, across the street from the Marion Square market and only a short walk from the Market and the Battery, the location is prime. My cousin had her wedding at The Francis Marion two weeks ago, and we stayed here that Friday and Saturday night. Side note: they did a marvelous job with her wedding! The night we were there, The Francis Marion was also hosting a debutante ball while we were there and everything was upscale and beautiful. My mom, dad, sister, and I all stayed in a room with two full beds. However, despite the small beds, the room was decorated tastefully and traditionally and offered plenty of space otherwise. The hotel was last renovated in the 90s and could perhaps use a few updates. Our bathroom was large enough to suit our needs. Note: Breakfast and parking are not included, but both restaurants and a parking garage are located within the hotel. The staff was pleasant and enjoyable with every encounter at every level. The overall ambiance of the historic hotel makes you feel a bit nostalgic and grand yourself. It was all very clean and comfortable, and I would not hesitate to stay there again, but maybe I expected a little more from The Francis Marion.
"Best Hotel Experience I have ever had"
My husband and I stayed at the Francis Marion for our 1 year anniversary, and we had an amazing experience from the time we entered the hotel. The staff at the Francis Marion Hotel offered great customer service, from suggesting restaurants, and bars to upgrading us to a suite for our anniversary. This hotel will definitely be our go to place to stay while in the Charleston area.
"Great location"
Very nice hotel in a perfect downtown location for walking many places. The room itself is large, but the bathroom is very small. You will be surprised at how small it is, yet there is a walk in closet adjacent! beds are super comfy, large TV, quiet room even with a lot of events going on. Staff is very helpful. Parking garage is @ 1/2 a block away, not connected to hotel/$16/day self-park. There is no fridge in the room. The hotel has a big Starbucks and a really nice restaurant with handsome bar. Breakfast buffet and menu are wonderful. Friendliest servers, I have ever met. I highly recommend this hotel, unless you can't deal with a very small bathroom.
"Great historic hotel - WHEELCHAIR ACCESS details inside"
Had a great stay at the Francis Marion over Labor Day weekend. The hotel is a historic property with plenty of charm but is thoroughly up to date. I use a wheelchair and got an accessible room on the 10th floor -- the hotel is the tallest building in Charleston so we had a nice view of the city. The room was well-decorated in a classic period style, spacious and had a king bed and sleeper sofa. The bathrooms are on the smaller side but there was enough room for my chair and perfectly placed grab bars so wasn't a problem. The roll-in shower had a good configuration and a shower bench was quickly brought up upon request. Service was excellent throughout the hotel. We especially were impressed with Maddie at the front desk, Sonia our housekeeper, and the young male concierge whose name I didn't catch. The location is good but a little bit of a hike from the main sights that all seem to be clustered around the market area that's a 15-20 minute walk down King St. I highly recommend Absolute Charleston Taxi for wheelchair accessible transportation while you're there. Booked them for airport transfers and they sent a spacious ramped MV1 taxi. Very prompt, reliable and reasonably priced (only $10-15 more than the taxis you'll find at the airport queue - none of which are accessible). Hotel should note as the front desk was clueless about this aspect when I called for info ahead of my trip.
"Anniversary Weekend"
My husband and I stayed at this hotel for our 1 year anniversary over July 4th weekend. I was a little skeptical when booking due to the mixed reviews about some of the rooms being outdated. To my surprise, the hotel staff did everything possible to make our stay special and comfortable. I had put a request in weeks before our reservation and gave them a heads up about our special occasion and if it would be possible if they could give us the nicest room available for the price we paid. When we arrived we found out that they upgraded our room to a suite on the 9th floor. We were blown away...it was probably one of the nicest hotel rooms I have ever stayed in. It was updated, had an amazing view of the entire city and Francis Marion Square and it also was HUGE! OK the bathroom was tiny, but in an old fashioned hotel like this what do you expect? And I hope that you wouldn't be spending too much time in the bathroom during your stay in Charleston. The staff also added a nice touch and delivered chocolate covered strawberries to our room with an Anniversary card! I couldn't have been more pleased with our stay and the true Southern Hospitality of the staff! Thanks for making our anniversary weekend special! Also- If you get a chance to eat at their restaurant, get the shrimp and grits they were delish!
"Beautiful Old Time Luxury"
Loved everything about our stay except for the rollaway bed.. The rollaway was horrible plastic covered mattress 1 inch from the floor. Book a suite if you have more than two people to a room. That way everyone will be comfortable. King bed great for two and the doubles will only accommodate only one person per bed comfortably. The service from the staff was outstanding and it's not their fault the rollaway is what it is.
