One of the loveliest hotels ever. The King Charles exceeded my expectations. The moment we entered the hotel, we were greeted by friendly helpful staff. The lounge area though small was tastefully done. Happy hour reception was a wonderful addition. Rooms were comfortable, and immaculate. The free parking was a big plus. Leave the car. Hotel is centrally located with shopping and fine dining close by.

We just finished a week vacation at the Grand Sirenis. We booked through BookVIP and I have to say that I'm extremely pleased with the entire trip, all the way from booking through the conclusion of the trip. We got a phenomenal deal and had an excellent trip!

Written Review

"Location, Location, Hospitality!"
The King Charles is located in the heart of Charleston, 2 blocks to the Market, 1 block to Kings St. The hotel staff is wonderful, pleasant, & do everything they can to make your stay enjoyable. Also, on-site, protected parking is included with your room. Numerous great restaurants within walking distance.
"Nice stay at the Inn"
Great location- walk to everything. The entire staff was hospitable- going out of their way to greet & accommodate. The hotel has a lot of charm and is simplistic - just as it should. The double room was smallish but clean & comfortable. We spent a lot of afternoons at the pool & lounge area- very nice! We had breakfast there 1 morning & it was very good & convenient.
"Great location and friendly staff"
We spent 6 nights at the King Charles. The location puts you right in the heart the city, and we could walk to anywhere in the historical, shopping, or restaurant districts. The concierge staff was very helpful at recommending great restaurants and places to see, while steering us away from tourist traps. Note: restaurants fill up fast, so you may want to book reservations for your entire stay on the first day (or even before you arrive). The rooms were very clean and quiet, so you will sleep well. Breakfast is not included, and the service in the hotel cafe was really slow. However, there are plenty of nearby breakfast shops and a Harris Teeter about a 1/2 mile away. So we just stocked up and ate breakfast in our room. The rooms have a small fridge, but no microwave. One huge benefit was the parking was free, and mostly covered, so we never got into a hot car. You could get in and out of the city pretty quick from the hotel, so we would tour the town by foot during the cooler morning, then got in the car and went to one of the 3 main beaches (20-35 minutes by car) in the afternoon, and returned for an awesome dinner back in the city. The hotel is quaint looking and inviting. It has a pool, but it is very small, no hot tub. There is a bar but we rarely saw people using it. But with so many outstanding nearby restaurants, I can see why. I would stay again on my next trip to Charleston.
"Excellent location and free parking"
We stayed at the King Charles Inn for 1 night on our trip through the US. The hotel was in a great location - we found it very easily on our drive from Savannah. The free parking was great for us and very easy to find a space in the car park. We arrived quite early and they had a room ready fro us which we didn't expect. The room was very nice and clean with a view onto the road but not noisy at all. They have free cheese and crackers in the bar in the afternoon which was a really nice touch. The lobby and bar area are nice communal areas. We really enjoyed our stay in beautiful Charleston and would definitely recommend this hotel if you're looking for somewhere central and reasonable.
"How many times can you say 'Great Hotel'?"
What a great experience! We were treated so well by the staff. Everyone at the hotel was friendly and helpful. The hotel is located well within walking distance of most of historic Charleston. This was our 6th visit to Charleston, but our 1st stay at the King Charles Inn. We have enjoyed every visit. But staying at the King Charles made this visit the best time we have had in Charleston.
"location and free parking"
Initial attraction to this hotel was free parking - Most hotels in the historic district charge $20 plus $4 tax per day. Nice small, upscale hotel. Free parking and when we arrive at 9:30 in the morning just hoping to park our car in the lot, they had a clean room so checked us imediately. -- Nice staff, Room was not huge but was recently renovated and well appointed - very clean. AC works very well. Great location, close to everything-(1-10 walk). Parked our car in the garage and left it there until we checked out. Yes there are fancier hotels for much more money, but I'll stay here again
"You won't find a better value in downtown!"
My husband and I came to Charleston for our honeymoon & booked the King Charles Inn based on TripAdvisor reviews. Free parking, centrally located to all the great shopping that King Street has, located just a few blocks away from amazing dining, and friendly staff were just a few reasons we knew we would love it here. Immediately upon arriving, we were greeted by an upbeat & very friendly worker named Gracee. That spelling may not be correct, but she is a local to Charleston and was delighted to find out this was our first time coming to see the city. We got checked in & grabbed our stuff from the car and got all settled into our room. Guest services came by with a congratulations card for us & champagne. We had chocolates in our room as well and a side patio balcony, both amenities we had not expected but it added to our impressed feeling we had with the hotel. The room was so clean. Bathroom was pristine & I saw no reason in our room to be concerned with the cleaning (which is probably a first with any hotel). They leave a newspaper bag with a newspaper inside on your door every weekday you are there. I thought this was such an added bonus of the way they take care of you while you are there. They have fruit infused water out every day for guests just by the pool so you can stay hydrated (which you will need in this city). They have cheese & fruit out every day at a certain time for guests and DELICIOUS chocolate chip cookies out at 8 every evening. I only had the cookies once so maybe they have variety but I only experienced the chocolate chip which was amazing. The restaurant they have there is a great place to grab a drink or food if you're tired from all the walking you will do, but definitely not a sacrifice. We had brunch here and it was very comparable to what we had elsewhere in the city. The pool is so much fun to swim in after a long day of walking and there's plenty of seating by the pool. The lounging furniture is super comfy! The room noise is only bad if people are walking by your door. And even then it's nothing but hearing someone talk. Other than that, we heard nothing from our neighbors & I'm assuming they didn't hear anything from us seeing as there were no complaints. Our room did not have a microwave but had a fridge and when we called the front desk to see if they had one, we were told to bring our food down and they heated it for us and gave us plastic silverware. Everything here is above & beyond. In conclusion, this hotel is amazing. There's more expensive options on the same street that have several 1, 2, & 3 star reviews. You can't beat the location, free parking, amenities, & level of friendliness you will receive at this hotel. We will definitely be back.
"Great Place to Stay"
While not the least expensive play to stay it was an outstanding experience and isn't that what we are looking for in a upscale hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff. The kids had fun in the pool and it's close to everything. Lots of parking in the 1st floor garage and a nice restaurant. They had a glitch with their ABC permit, but more than made up for it by opening a few bottles for their guests. Lots of good restaurants in the area and it's close to everything downtown has to offer. We'll be back.
"Always a winner"
This hotel with its free parking is so convenient to historic downtown that we never used our car and walked everywhere which was good exercise with all the good gourmet restaurants nearby. Our room was actually available at 1 PM when we arrived. Prices in their breakfast cafe are reasonable with a decent selection so we didn't eat out too often. The staff in all departments are very friendly and helpful, especially the front desk that made dinner reservations for us several times. This was true southern hospitality and we will always return to this hotel when in Charleston. This was our ninth visit to this hotel and it seems they are always improving, if that's possible.
"Charming Inn in centre of Charleston"
We stayed at King Charles Inn for 1 night n our roadtrip. It's a great location and great value in heart of Charleston. The decor is traditional in keeping with the name and theme of the hotel. The staff is very helpful and friendly - really make the experience pleasant.

"Our 1st Trip to Charleston,SC"
This was our 1st trip to Charleston, SC & we will definitely be back! The staff @ the King Charles Inn were very welcoming & attentive. We loved the ambiance & style of the Inn. Thank you - well done!
"Friendly and comfortable."
The staff was A1. The room and bedding was comfortable. The location of the Inn was perfect. Upon arrival the staff brought our bags up. The Brew had a cheese, cracker olive and grapes tray that was delicious. The staff had wonderful recommmendations for restaurants and shopping.

"Right in the heart of Charleston"
We were tempted to stay a bit further out and save some money but I'm so pleased we didn't. The position of this hotel is excellent. Two blocks from the market with all of the charming areas of Charleston very walkable. To be able to pop in and out was so useful and this was without the great heat of the summer months. Sightseeing rides set off from a couple of hundred yards away and there was so much to do and see on the doorstep as well as places to eat and drink. The rooms are very nice. Not over large, (you are in the middle of the town) but perfectly adequate and there is a bar/cafe where you can have breakfast or a drink. The building itself is quite impressive. Happy hour is just a reduction of $1 on quite expensive drinks but in pleasant surroundings. We opted for a $3 glass of wine in a bar on the next block (to be totally truthful we opted for more than one) but that's the point, you're right in the heart of things. I'm white and my wife of 37 years is black. We visited with our niece and her daughter who are also black. We found nothing but friendliness and Southern charm along with some delight at our accents. Charleston is high on our list of places we would go back to as is King Charles Inn.
"King Charles Inn"
I enjoyed my stay @ King Charles Inn during my 1st trip to Charleston, SC. The staff was so very nice/professional/helpful & treated you as if you were a guest in their own home. The room was tastefully decorated & clean and I really appreciated the complimentary bottled water provided. We ate breakfast @ the hotel almost every morning & was impressed by the food & service (our waitress remembered our preferred drink order every morning w/o asking & always talked w/us about our daily plans & made helpful suggestions/recommendations). We also enjoyed the complimentary tea & scrumptious homemade chocolate chip cookies every night! This hotel is centrally located to the City Market, restaurants, etc. plus there is a trolley stop across the street. I highly recommend King Charles Inn!
"The only place I have my out of town home buyers stay. †1‡st night my tab !!"
When we first purchasing investment properties in Chas. Sc. the King Charles was are base of operations. Over the years it's just gotten better, service as well as amenities. Now as a realtor and my out of town home buyers want to stay downtown I will pick up first night stay if they stay at the King Charles.. Recently had family stay there and they are still thanking me. Big is not always better !!
"Nice Location for Downtown Charleston"
Nice hotel in downtown Charleston. Great location for the sights of the town right on Meeting street. Able to walk to everything we wanted to see and eat. The room was very small but ok for a 1 night stay. We were awakened early due to some construction near by but that happens. Staff was very good. A big perk was free wifi and parking. Nice pool.
"Great visit"
A friend and I wanted to celebrate our birthdays and chose to visit Charleston. What a great stay we had at the King Charles. The staff amazing, very clean hotel, great location and very good breakfast in the hotel dining area. All of the staff were great including our 1st encounter with Daniel who helped us with luggage and we mentioned it was my birthday and within moments he showed up at our door with complimentary champagne. Breakfast staff after the 1st morning knew what we liked including what kind of jam we wanted for our toast. On our last morning I asked to see the chef to thank him for making a great breakfast for us. I know how hard it is to get all of it right but breakfast was perfect each morning. We never moved our car for 3 days until we were ready to leave. Great location.
"Great location"
The perfect location for visiting Charleston. In the middle of everything and an easy walk from the historic houses, museum, and restaurants. FREE PARKING a definite plus! The room was very clean and comfortable. Free coffee every day in the room, great bathroom. The staff was friendly and helpful. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the current upgrading construction. We were not bothered by noise, but there was only 1 elevator operating. Our room was next to the ice maker, which did make quite a bit of noise, but thankfully rarely was it a problem late at night. I would highly recommend this hotel.
