What Our Customers Are Saying

Written Review

"Very nice resort great service!"
Everything I read in the reviews about the resort being spread out is correct but you can call the car and have it at your room in less than two minutes. The service is amazing the other travelers were all very nice, food was great, drinks are top shelf. You may want to request a room by the main pool and restaurants. The spa was so so... I would skip it next time and would definitely return. One thing to think about is if you sign up for the vacation club to get vouchers to use it takes 2 hours of prime sunlight and if you buy one like my partner did it tool almost 5 hours of prime sunlight. The sun is generally gone from the main pool around 3 pm. There is not much to do at night besides eat and drink but that seems to be fine for most. Loved it!
"It's a Pleasure!"
"It's a pleasure!" My family and I delighted in this typical response by the lovely staff in Costa Rica whenever we thanked them for the very gracious service. Our family of four, including two college-aged sons, enjoyed our vacation here tremendously, and the delightful, caring, professional and hard-working staff were a big part of it. Bravo to them all, and to the management for empowering your employees to do their best. The resort is in a beautiful location, with ocean views abounding. The food in every restaurant was absolutely delicious and top-quality, and the service impeccable. Beyond the resort, Costa Rica is a magnificent, proud country with activities and wildlife for all vacation lifestyles. The resort is spotlessly clean throughout and beautifully updated. One small suggestion to the management: The spa pool area is beautiful and relaxing. However, the ladders into and out of the pool (there are no steps) are slippery and dangerous. You would do well to replace them. Thank you to the employees for creating a beautiful resort and a memorable vacation.
"Brand New Resort"
Loved it! Staff is so kind & caring! Marilyn is a beautiful exotic dancer who engages everyone in dancing & activities. Carlos & Brahim make the best drinks! Grille Restaurant has the best steaks & entrees & carrot cake. Food is incredible compared to any other all inclusive resorts! Four stars because I wish there was more entertainment at night time, but they did just open so they keep implement more things & the staff is very accommodating!!
"Wonderful time!"
We just returned from a 5 day stay at the resort. The location was great and the people who work there really go out of their way to make your stay pleasurable. Jeffrey at the Preferred Club bar was very helpful and knowledgeable about the area (he also made great drinks!!). Jeffrey at the main lobby was very welcoming each time we left and came back from excursions. Also, we went for our anniversary and there was a surprise waiting for us each time we returned to our room that first day. I won't ruin it for others, but they definitely made sure that our first night was very romantic!
This hotel is polar opposite from where I would typically stay (I'm a camping kinda gal), but wow - a week in luxury was thoroughly enjoyed. The best part of this place is the PEOPLE who work there. Genuine, kind, hardworking, fun, extremely helpful and efficient. I enjoyed getting to know them all while soaking in the amazing pura vida environment. I highly recommend this hotel to folks who like to wine and dine. The place is stragtegically set up where one side of the property tends to be more 'happening' and full of music, but if you are in the mood for quiet and R&R the other side provides just what you are looking for.
"Amazing - best service around"
Beautiful resort and the most amazing service. Took me back each time the staff would call us by our first name. The staff seem proud of the resort and they take pride in their work. So relaxing, will be back!!
Amazing location! The staff, service, amenities, and food we're fabulous. The view from our room was breathtaking. The dipping pool outside of our room was secluded and very romantic! Outstanding service at the restaurants (Eliecer and Pablo). The massage staff was fabulous as well! The grounds were great for walking and hiking- lots of beautiful flowers, birds, and monkeys.
We just returned from a 5 night stay at Adult Luxury Papagayo. This was our first all inclusive vacation and we certainly weren't disappointed. The food and beverages were amazing and the service top-notch. We will definitely recommend this resort to our family and friends and plan to return ourselves in the future
"Beautiful country, felt like we were living in a rainforest"
My husband and I travelled to Costa Rica for the first time during the first week of December. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive to our needs. The Costa Rican people are very friendly ,intelligent and accommodating even outside the resort. I would highly suggest to get out of the resort and also enjoy the wonderful trips offered by the tours available to book at the resort . Our favourite was the land of senses it had a tour through the rainforest and we jumped into 3 or or 4 different hot springs. My husband really loved it he didn't want to leave the last hot spring. We also got to see a hummingbirds nest, a sloth, a baby viper snake. Just an awesome your and the tour guide was both informative and hilarious. That being said as for the resort there were a couple of hiccups as the resort had been newly opened 2 weeks before our arrival. I'm sure this is ironed out now but One of the major setbacks of the trip was that on the 2nd last day we did not have working water in our shower for the whole day. The resort staff kept advising us that it was not a hotel issue and that the whole area was affected by this later in the day we were told that it was harder to pump water to our room because we were higher up. As you can imagine this was a big inconvenience. Other than that the staff was very accommodating to our needs. The tepanyaki food was excellent and extremely filling ( the only place where you have to reserve a table). The skirt steak at the barefoot grill was to die worthy of 2 orders everytime. The pools were wonderful and the ocean was great. Would definitely go back to this resort in the future. This was our first time at a secrets resort and we were very pleased.
"Loved it!"
This is our 5th day at the resort. We have definitely enjoyed our stay here (and we are very picky travelers)! The food is great everywhere except Portofino (Italian) was a bit of a let down. It took over 2 hours for the 4 courses to be served. The desserts were amazing though. The Spa restaurant, the Seafood Bar and Grill, the Barefoot bar all have excellent food and service. Much better than the Dreams Resort in Tulum. The rooms are spotless. They are the size of a regular hotel room but all the amenities are nice. The beds are very comfortable. This resort is peaceful and friendly. It is not a late night, party property! There are plenty of drinks served all the time with top rate service but it is definitely laid back. The Spa area is amazing. A Zen type feeling. The main pool is more lively and fun. The beach is quiet and relaxing. Warning - if you are handicapped, have vision problems, or are in poor shape - this is not the resort for you! Shuttles or not -hills are everywhere and many stairs to and from different areas. At night there are dark areas that you could easily fall and get seriously injured. My husband and I personally enjoyed it because the hills helped work off the calories from The good food! Bugs - not an issue for us at all! Haven't even used bug spray since the first night (we used it because of all the reviews but wouldn't have needed it). We are from the Midwest USA so maybe we are just used to it but seriously haven't even swatted at 1 mosquito. Haven't seen a bug in the rooms (our group has 5 rooms). Smoking is not allowed anywhere on the property except for the beach. We were worried that this place might be too quiet for us, but we have loved it and hope to come back!
"best resort for swimming surrounded by wonderful nature"
We have been at Adult Luxury Papagayo for 6 nights over Christmas. We have travelled around Costa Rica for 3 weeks and it was the best place combining comfort, beautiful nature, an almost totally private beach, clean and calm sea and very attentive and warm-hearted 24/7 service. The rooms are newly renovated, ours had a good view. However, a construction to dry wet bath suits is missing (we had to dry it on the wooden furniture on the balcony). Overall, the all inclusive service was good value for money. The vines per glass were excellent. All kind of drinks (fruit juices, cocktails, etc) were offered constantly by the personnel. We often had special requests (gluten free) and the staff always managed to fulfill them promptly. However, some need to further improve their english language skills. You can chose between 3 to 4 different bars/restaurants. Except for the Grill Restaurant we considered all restaurants and bars as excellent, especially the Japanese Restaurant. The staff should stronger enforce the already loose dresscode (e.g. no jogging trousers for men inside the Italian restaurant!). Moreover, the music was turned off around 10/10.30 pm around the bar areas, which is a bit too earlier for young people, who like to dance a little bit. The entertainment and sports activities offered during the day are versatile (great gym, stand up paddelling, snorkelling, dancing, fitness courses.. without extra fee). If one wants to be physically active there are lots of opportunities. The beach and the area around the SPA is great for people who seek to relax. We really liked the design and flair of the bars and restaurants. Especially the Aqua SPA bar and the Barefoot Grill lunch restaurant had a great and cozy atmosphere, with a good relax area. Summing up, we recommend this resort and look really forward to our next visit!
"Excellent All Include Newly Renovated"
Adult Luxury Papagayo re-opened in mid-Dec 2015 after full renovation and the place is amazing. About 200 rooms on the sprawling, hillside property with great bay views. You have the choice of a cozy/busy vibe in the main pool/restaurant/beach area if that is what you seek or a more private vibe if you go the spa area pool/restaurant/beach area. Food is tasty with seafood, steak, Asian & Italian restaurants as well as the Market Cafe where the theme changes (e.g. Mexican, etc). Chilean wine is provided and premium wine is available for purchase in the Italian restaurant. All of the food was nicely prepared, tasty and included, as is room service. Several bars pour top trier beverages (JW Black, Grey Goose, Ketel 1, Remey Martin VSOP, Compari, Botran 8 yr rum, etc). Transport is provided from room to any area of the hotel within 2 minutes of calling (the drivers remember your name and are quick to always assist) or you may walk. Excellent beach service (food & beverages) is provided by Francisco & Kevin while Henry and Dourhan are great mixologists at the bar. The beach is nicely sized, private and snorkeling gear, kayak (singe/double) and paddle boards are available at no charge, jet-ski for rent. Diego can arrange a Swiss Tour trip to the the peninsula or volcano. Wifi was free and with good signals in rooms, pool, beach and restaurants. Overall, great value for money as this all inclusive delivers a modern venue with top level service and amenities.
"Adult Luxury Papagayo"
I stayed here back in March 2015. I'm not sure what it's like now that it has been renovated but when I went it was amazing! The food was wonderful and there were so many choices all day round. The staff are some of the nicest most helpful people I have ever met and are always quick to fulfill your needs the best they can. Beach was beautiful. You are served a cool, mint towel and a fruity drink upon check in which was lovely. Also WiFi was free around the whole resort and worked surprisingly well. As I said, this was back in March 2015 so I'm not sure if it's still the same, but considering it was renovated I would assume it's even better.
"Amazing Place"
We stayed here over Christmas for 7 days. Honestly, the place, food, and especially the service was outstanding. In the seven days we were there, everyone at the hotel we came in contact with (bell boy, check in, servers, shuttle drivers, etc.) were beyond pleasant and very attentive. We have travelled the world and I can say that this was the some of the best service we have ever experienced. Others we talked to at the resort felt the same. The pools were great overlooking the ocean and a perfect temperature. Lounges were comfortable and the pool service was great. The hotel wasn't full, but I'll assume it would be just as good when it is busy. You had a choice of restaurants and to our knowledge all the items were available and everything we had was very tasty. We were there for Christmas day and the resort put on a fantastic Christmas dinner in the pool area with entertainment. We stayed in room 102 which was very near the main pool and buildings so we didn't need to rely on the shuttles except to go to the top or spa pool. The view and location of our was perfect. All in all we loved it and normally would not consider going back to a place where we had been before as we like to experience new locations - however we may make an exception in this case.
"25th Year Anniversary in December - Best yet."
Bungalow 348. Very quiet and could see the Ocean through all the big trees full of birds. The Room was great. Shuttle service to and from the room was very prompt and the drivers were always happy and fun to talk too. Food was great at every restaurant, and the Buffet was always very good. Too many drink choices to choose from was the only trouble we had. The pool was great, especially with the swim up bar (more drink choices). The Beach and Ocean are a very short walk from the pool and the Ocean was at least as warm as the pool and incredibly calm.
"Best tropical trip"
I stayed here for 8days with my family and each day just became better and better. The beach is amazing and there are plenty of activities to do on it. The staff are super friendly and actually make an effort to make sure everyone is relaxing and having fun. Marilyn and Jason are wonderful dance instructors and performers ( literally they are dancing queen and king!). Also Alex is a great spanish teacher for anyone who wants to learn. I must also say thanks to jossimar for always playing volleyball with us youngsters and keeping the score. And last but not least, thank you Brahim for always entertaining us at the bar!
"Awesome place"
This property is beautiful and it is nestled on expansive hillside area. It has villas that are spread out and you will have to do your share of walking which we didn't mind but off course you could also use the resort personnel driven carts if you wanted. It was all inclusive and the restaurants were very nice and food was simply awesome.. I probably have had the best steak in my life there.. Variety of tropical fruits... Resort personnel were very attentive and helpful.. It has been one of our favorite vacations.. So many things to do. We did Arenal volcano tour, zip lining, horse back riding. Staff are very helpful in arranging tours. On site snorkeling, canoeing, makes it fun.. Ton of activities for everyone.. Only complaint was not about resort but loud, drunk, people at pool... It was on the shared pool for kids and adults and having kids in the pool while the guests were acting sleazy was not cool!! I wish the people could tone it down and use the adult only pool by spa, which was quieter!! I wish the hotel staff were a little more careful and involved at main pool just because there were kids!! But you will always get your share of those tourists that just want to ruin it for others... The pool bar was good and made good drinks, smoothies for kids too!! Overall it was a really good vacation for our family.
"A Great Getaway"
My wife enjoyed Adult Luxury Papaguayo immensely. There was no big hotel building just small suites/bungalows usually grouped 2 to 4 rooms. All the rooms are on a hilltop facing the bay which heads into the Pacific ocean. There is also alot tall trees and flora which block ocean view. Since the beach and restaurants are not very close, transportation is provided in oversized golf carts which can carry 12. ... or you can walk which we did during daylight. 5- 10 minute walks were generally what it took to get to the beach and restaurants. ... or you can walk to the spa side and walk the beach which is very fast. You will get the black volcanic sand on your feet. The food was great. Vegetarians rejoice. Anything on the menu can be modified to your likes. All it took was an English to Spanish translation on my phone and I was golden. A very hard working staff tended to our needs. Super hard working people. Francisco was nuts how hard he worked. Always smiling. If you're an Iron Maiden or Rolling Stone fan, let him know. He has a few stories for you. Jeffrys in the lobby was awesomely, too. My wife and I loved it. We loved the down time. Sometimes it felt we had the place to ourselves. There were just enough people to mingle and have fun with. It's pretty quiet at night with entertainment. It was a qreat get away.
"December 2015 - Anniversary"
My husband and I visited the Adult Luxury Papagayo resort for a four nights stay. I had book my stay using Expedia. Once we got there Expedia had made a mistake while booking my reservation with the resort. Although the my confirmation was for December 2015, when Expedia made the reservation at the resort it was made for 2016! I was very lucky that the resort wasn't fully book. The resort was very nice and professional about it . They gave us our room without issue or making us feel bad. As for Expedia, sent them many emails, replied to their survey but have not received one explanation or answer from them. I am not sure I will use their service again.a The resort is nice, the beach is clean, lots of water activities. The food is good and service is fantastic! The resort is hilly but they have transportation available at all time with just a phone call away. We reserved a room with a plunged pool and it was nice to have our own private pool. The view was great from our room. Overall, I had a great time.
"Vacation of a Lifetime"
My husband and I stayed here for 9 days. Staff were amazing and very accommodating. We changed our room after the 1st night, the original room was very beautiful and close to everything, but very noisy in the AM. 2nd room was just as nice as the 1st. While the hills can be daunting, they do have a fabulous drivers, I dont think that it ever took longer than a few minutes for a ride anywhere. My favorite restaurant was the Proftfino, Italian Restaurant. While some of the others needs some work on the doneness of the food. They are a new hotel so they do still have some kinks to work out, but they are very receptive to your comments and suggestions on how to put out a better experience. The staff were some of the most amazing people I have met, I travel ALOT, this by far one of my favorite places to stay. I cant wait to go back to see how things have progressed. If you are not so steady on your feet I recommend the 100 block of rooms, close to everything without a trek, The 400 block has the best views of the property, the 200 block is close to everything, but on the main path to the other rooms (can be a bit noisy), the 300 block located behind the spa, quiet area, not really a spectacular view, but nice and quiet. All rooms are newly renovated and beautiful!
"Top Notch Facility & People"
I understand that everyone is different and therefore has different expectations, nonetheless a few of these recent reviews note what I would label as some pretty ridiculous "issues." From my point of view: The grounds here are top notch. The area is broken into two main sections; the smaller one-pool area near the spa and the main area at the hub of the property. The area near the spa has an open air restaurant with great breakfast and lunch fare. We enjoyed lounging at this side during our stay as the presence of the spa keeps the vibe low key with soft, chill music. The main area is more bustling with more pool/swimming area and the remaining of the resorts restaurants, bars, breakfast buffet, etc... Both areas border the beach which is also the easiest way to go from one area to the other. The property is on a cove which makes the ocean swimming very comfortable; calm and warm. If you want some surf, it's easy to get out to a local beach too. The snorkeling is just fair from the resort beach, but worth an hour. The food we found to be on par with our expectations, no problem. There is a reasonable variety across the line-up of restaurant options. We thoroughly enjoyed the smaller meal portions, but for those who desire more, no worries as you can easily get your fill. The staff here make the experience that much better, these are happy, fun and friendly people that really want to provide for their guests. We had many repeat interactions with employees, from Carlos the concierge to the awesome entertainment staff, bartenders and servers and they all took ownership of the guest experience. If there were any shortcoming and it wasn't for me, it's a lack of nightlife for those looking. We met a couple expecting a night club atmosphere in one of the night spots, not so much... Overall a great 4 nights to begin a larger tour of Costa Rica and I'd highly recommend if you're looking for a high end, relaxing resort with great food and a top notch staff. If you go, head over to the main reception area and visit Ladislao at the bar for a great sunset before dinner...Thanks to Adult Luxury Papagayo for a great time!
"It's a pleasure!"
The resort is magnificent! We planned to do adventure trips but the resort was an adventure: snorkeling, kayaking, climbing over rocks to get to quiet beaches, yoga and on and on! Staff are the most pleasant and gracious and friendly. Loved Ronnie at the buffet breakfast and Danny at the Italian restaurant was lovely! Ignore those bug bitten idiots who wrote a nasty review of him. Great food all day and drinks galore without hangovers! There are even cats and an adorable dog. I fed them not sure if supposed to. I will go home and respond to everyone at work with the staff expression of: it's a pleasure! Best holiday ever!!!!!!!
"First trip"
This was the best vacation we have ever taken. The resort is beautiful and and the staff were so attentive, helpful and polite. The restaurant and bars were very placed and staffed. It was quite, restful a pleasure. The weather was great too, perfect for dining outside at night. We took advantage of a boat ride for snorkelling and seeing the bay and town of Coco beach for shopping and meal at a local restaurant. Did I mention the room was first rate, robes and slippers even.
"Great getaway spot!"
Top marks for location, amenities and friendly staff. The restaurant staff are inexperienced however, time and training will improve that. Monkeys and parrots in the trees, tropical fish in the sea. The staff (Carlos the Concierge found out it was my birthday and had a banner on our door and a cake in our room.) Loved the place!
