"Excellent night show and perfect kids pools!"
Loved the night show. The 6-person dance and entertainment staff was excellent. And with kids, the two kids pools are perfect. Plus I love that it's close to the beach, and I really enjoyed the comfortable rooms. Thank you!
"Another wonderful stay at Condovac"
I have been an owner here since 1979 and still love the place. The standard villas have one large bedroom, a bathroom with a toilet and a big shower, a dressing room with a sink and the living/dining/kitchen area. The bedroom has 2 double beds and the flat screen TV. - with a few channels in English. In the living area there are 2 single size couches that could serve as beds for small children. The furniture is real wood and not fancy. The kitchen does not have a stove, but all kinds of appliances if you want to cook - 2 burners set into the counter, a microwave, an electric frypan, blender, coffeemaker, rice cooker, toaster oven and full size refrigerator with freezer, plus pots and pans and basic kitchen utensils as well as silverware, big and small plates, bowls, mugs and glasses for 6. There is more than ample storage space in the kitchen, dressing room and bedroom. There is a quiet air conditioning unit in the living area and in the bedroom. Shampoo is provided in the shower dispenser and they give you small bars of soap daily. There is maid service (except for washing dishes) every day, Pool towels are provided and can be exchanged near the pool during the day and 24 hours at the guardhouse by the beach. The beach has volcanic sand so it is a dark color and usually the water is wonderfully warm - great for swimming. There is a spa on the property close to the beach so you can hear the ocean while you get a massage, pedicure or manicure. Different water tours are available too. The Mardigi tour office is located at the entrance to the restaurant - good food, especially breakfast - and they are the BEST for land tours - very personalized service and they can pick you up at the airport either in Liberia or San Jose. There are three shows a week in the evening (Turs., Thurs. and Sat.) in the same place as the Steakhouse (open Wed. and Fri. nights only) - we enjoyed our meal here very much. Friendly service "Tico" style from all the personnel. This resort is not fancy but very family friendly - for those who love nature and want to spend time together and with Costa Ricans, not just tourists from the USA. The view of the ocean from the restaurant on top of the steep hill is unforgettable and look for the howler monkeys in the big tree on the beach at the entrance to the hotel. Oh, and there are 9-passenger carts that do the circle down from the reception to the beach past the villas and back up every 5 minutes or so from 7 am until 10 pm.. There is a bigger supermarket called Luperon about half a mile on the main road before the entrance to Condovac and several markets in Playa del Coco about a 10 minute drive from Condovac - in Automercado supermarket you can find practically anything you might want imported from the USA. As I said, I love the laid back atmosphere here and look forward to my week every year!
"Sunsets are the best!"
It's been my 4th consecutive year in Condovac and I absolutely love it! There is a very family friendly environment great to share and have fun. And of course the absolute best are the sunsets in Playa Hermosa or the view from the pool! Love it :)
"We enjoyed a great long weekend in Family"
It was a wonderful long weekend. We loved the beach, it is beautiful and calm. The hotel is great, the pools (kids pool, infinity pool, etc) are fantastic. The breakfast was delicious. Good service, including transportation service to the beach.
"Great Family Vacation"
My family and I spent 10 days at this property. This is not a luxury all-inclusive resort, but it is clean, the grounds are beautiful, and the staff is great. I recommend setting up a trip or two with Mardigi tours at the hotel, but also getting a rental car *we use Adobe). You can drive yourself to some great adventures. We went all over Guanacaste! Thank you to everyone at the Condovac la Costa.
"Lots to do"
Im a single woman and took my first abroad trip that started here. The facility and room was clean and comfortable. Im used to going to Baja, so was satisfied with the accommodations. Loved Diana who helped me book some rides and tours, and the tour guides were really good and knowledgable. My gem was Joswa who gave a great massage listening to the crashing waves. Zen.
The food was good, a couple of meals had flies around until they put something like burning coffee to deter them. At the same time a gorgeous view.
"Beautiful beach"
Wonderful family place, 21/2 pool the 1/2 it's kids a water mushroom, food is good, not great but good. Loved their Chifrito, recommended by the waiter. They have a full kitchen. Worked out great, only down you have to wash your own dishes.
"Great place as long as you set your expectations accurately.."
The location of this place is the best attribute. Right on a public beach with great restaurants along the shoreline. Rooms are a little dated and not in the best conditions. Rooms are very simple and have old furniture with walls and fixtures that need some attention. We knew what to expect and made the best of pour vacation. The pools and nice especially the infinity pool. Food was tasty at every on site restaurant we visited including the mandatory breakfast. Service at the pool bar was slow and drinks were weak as expected. We brought our own drinks and supplemented at the bar when needed. The hill is steep as expected but we enjoyed the extra exercise as all we did otherwise was eat and drink all week. The shuttle service is great. Loved the resort as we knew to expect a $100/night experience and not a $300/night experience. Location and the helpful staff made our week!
"Nice villas"
Very nice place, with a good location in playa Hermosa. We stayed 3 nights and days. The villas are very clean and the kitchen well equipped if you want to cook, They clean the villa everyday and change towells. The pools are ok, especially for kids. The breakfast was delicious and buffet style. For lunch or dinner I suggest to go out, because the restaurant is not good.
"Spring Break"
Found this wonderful place online and was very pleased. Check in was pretty quick and the staff spoke English well. Inventorying the suite was a little interesting but it went well. The view is gorgeous and the staff was very accommodating. Would definitely bring my family here again!
"Girls Bday trip"
We had an amazing time at the Hotel Condovac La Costa! There was five of us instead of the four like we had anticipated and they immediately upgraded us to a two level condo! We had an amazing view and the room was extremely clean and comfortable! Breakfast every morning was terrific! Very delicious Costa Rican breakfast along with Costa Rican coffee of course! It was not very busy which was perfect the pool was never crowded and the view from the pool was the best! And don't forget the pool bar...you can sit there and look at the view! All the employees were extremely attentive and kind, always available to help in anyway! I would highly recommend this hotel for a nice, conveniently located place in Playa Hermosa right on the beach. It is on a hill but they have a shuttle that runs every five minutes. It's a great place for families or trips with friends and you will feel safe if you are solo as well!! Definitely walk down the beach to Aqua Surf!! Have a chili quaro... they have the BEST!!
"Great value for the price!"
I read very mixed reviews of this property so I was a little nervous; but for the price, I thought they really delivered! The resort offers tons of amenities, the rooms are spacious and offer a small kitchen. The staff were very accommodating and friendly.
The location was great. It is not too far from the airport and easy to get to all the attractions in the area. We did not rent a car; instead we chose to utilize a tour guide. Cars are expensive to rent in Costa Rica and it was great to have a local who can offer suggestions and tips. We used Herson Segura (
[email protected]). He was awesome and we did not have to worry about a thing. Just tell him what you want to do and he will arrange it for you. He met us at the airport and took care of our travels all week.
The property sits on a steep hill but the shuttle ran constantly and the views/sunsets were amazing. The beach is public so there are a lot of people there trying to sell you things. But, they were not pushy and I had two nice massages on the beach for $25 or less each!
"Family Stay at Condovac la Costa"
We enjoyed our stay at Condavac la Costa. Our group included three adults, a teen, and two 9 year old boys. Once we checked in, we were informed that our accommodations were upgraded.
When we arrived to our accommodations, we were surprised to find a sliding door that opened to a private stairway leading to an upstairs bedroom,
The upstairs bedroom included a patio with chairs, a view of the ocean, trees, a plenty of wild life. The room was large with a bar, large flat screen TV, floor length sized mirror to admire yourself, and patio doors leading to the patio. The upstairs bathroom was large with a large spa tub and a separate shower.
The downstairs main level included patio doors leading to the patio, kitchen and dining area with cooking, dining wear, and seating seating for eight, The living room included a sleeper sofa that was changed out the next day for another one. The bedroom included twin beds and a flat screen TV. The bathroom included a shower, but no tub.
I am so thankful for the upgrade!
The resort was abound with wildlife. We viewed several species of birds right from my balcony. There were families of monkeys, iguanas, and other lizards.
The resort has a private beach that includes kayaks and standup paddle boards that are complimentary to the guests. There are also boats and other types of water crafts available for a cost. The beach was only minutes from our unit. There are shuttle buses that will transport you throughout the resort. There are shops as well as restaurants on site.
There pools available for everyone. There is an infinity pool that faces the ocean and has a swim up bar, a pool with a slide, a shallow pool with a pouring umbrella for small kids, and a pool that all would enjoy.
Right in the vicinity of the pool is the kids activity building, the fitness center, and other amenities for the guest.
The main restaurant is next to the pool area. There are two pool tables and a bar housed there. This is where the complimentary breakfast buffet is served to the guests.
Our accommodations included a daily free breakfast buffet for each guest. The breakfast buffet was nice and included made to order omelets, fruits, eggs, a breakfast meat of the day, plantains, black beans and rice, and more. The breakfast beverage menu included orange juice, coffee, water, and sometimes smoothies. The food taste range was average to good.
Lunch nor dinner was included in the vacation package. The price for the meals were comparable to what you would pay in the USA. We experienced the portions to be average or large. The tip and taxes are included in the bill.
You may find yourself eating with a few uninvited guest at or around your table. We experienced birds taking our food, and a coati watching everyone eat. The kids were a little afraid of the animals at first, but the animals we encountered were not aggressive. We ate breakfast and dinner here.
We enjoyed our stay here and would definitely recommend it for anyone traveling with children.
"Makes you happy, all day"
We were in Costa Rica for twenty four days. Booked in Condovac for the fist ten. Planned to pick two other places to stay after we got there. We could not leave. Ended up extending twice, a week at a time. It is a piece of heaven. The views are incomparable. A picture perfect sunset every night. Each unit is a spacious, well equipped efficiency, has an amazing view and private entrance to outside. Very clean. Service was great. The staff was very pleasant, attentive and responsive. When I complained that wifi was weak in one of the rooms they installed a router outside our window within two hours. Breakfast was included. The food was good. Variety limited.
A couple of nice restaurants walking distance. The town of Playas del Coco is 15 min away. The airport is 30 min away. The guests were from Latin America, Europe, Canada and the US. Many families, young couples and older couples.
We will go back.
"Really like the place.
We stayed in one of the fancier rooms that is two stories. It was clean, the AC worked well and the room was well equipped. The grounds are great, everything you need is near by and you can walk down the beach to a number of restaurants. The grounds have a nice open air restaurant, mini mart, and more.
The room was a little rough around the edges though, the glass doors shut hard, the wood cabinet doors are kind of worn and the chairs are not super comfortable. The bed was comfortable though and I very much enjoyed the stay."

"Review of hotel"
Stayed one week in the hotel. It is adjacent to the beach
It is reasonable. The rooms are modest but we had everything we needed. The staff is great and we enjoyed the gourmet restaurant off the lobby called Colabri run by Edvaldo
"Great place for families"
This is a nice place to stay as a family as the villa easily sleeps 8. The main level has a full kitchen (stove top, full fridge, microwave and coffee maker), dishes, silverware for 4 and pans included. In the kitchen is also a couch that turns into a trundle bed. Behind this a closet area, bathroom and a room with two double bed. Off of the kitchen is steep open air stairs to a private room with a king bed, private bathroom with a jacuzzi tub and shower. There is a lot of wild life around from beautiful birds that will check on you at breakfast, howler monkeys in the trees and iguana. One joined us in the pool. The resort is on a mountain so it is a very steep walk from the bottom with the beach to the top where the 3 pools are. One pool is shallow, another with a slide for the kids and the last with a swim up bar. They have happy hour from 4-6 which means 2 drinks for the price of one (only certain drinks included). The restaurant offers a buffet breakfast-typical beans and rice, scrambled eggs, plantains, yogurt and fresh fruit.
"We had a great time!"
Our room was nice. We have been told other rooms were dirty, but this recently renovated room was nice. Large kitchen/sitting area, bathroom, shower and sink in the middle and a spacious bedroom in the back. We loved our stay, especially the short 5-minute walk to the beach was awesome. The view from the infinity pool was incredible as well (see pictures).
"Very good for families on a budget."
I'm told that 20 or so years ago this way THE place to stay in Playa Hermosa. It is essentially efficiency apartments that overlook an absolutely beautiful beach. The restaurant is good and overlooks the beach offering stunning views. It is an older property which is showing its age but it is clean, safe, and comfortable. It is not luxury, it is for families mostly who want the option of preparing some of their meals. It offers a fully stocked kitchen in each unit. It is built in to the side of a steep hill and they offer shuttles that run very frequently to move you around the property so you don't have have to hike up or down the very steep hill. The staff service is excellent.
"Wonderful family resort!"
Located on a steep hill and an almost private beach, this hotel is a great vacation spot for families. The large pool area with several pools and entertainment for children is ideal to spend some time and relax. Little golf carts travel through the resort in case you don't want to walk the hills. The beach is very clean, with dark sand. The kitchens in the apartments are so well equipped that you can easily prepare all your meals there. A large American-Style supermarket is about 20 minutes away in the next town. A small store is on the premises and another one right outside the gate. If you don't wish to cook, the restaurant offers excellent food. Iguanas will join you at the pool and restaurant area, they eat plantains as well as French fries, if you like to feed them. Monkeys play in the trees and watch you swim in the pool. It was so nice, we did not want to leave!
"Beautiful place"
Went there as a group of 5 women. The view from the reception area is stunning! The infinity pool is beautiful and clean. The hotel staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The room was clean and neat. The rooms do offer a hair dryer and beach towels. Had a little trouble with the safe, but the maintenance team was there quickly to fix it. The pull out futon was horrible. The lady who slept on it woke up with deep bloody scratches on her back and arms from nails poking thru cover. The maintenance team again was there quickly and gave us a mattress topper to put on the futon. Marie in the house keeping department was absolutely wonderful. She was very attentive to what 5 women could need. Michael & Jason at the pool bar were also great- very friendly and creative. The food at the restaurant was delicious. Had the rice & shrimp and 2 specialty pizzas. All reasonably priced. The walk up the hill from our room (200 block) was short, but strenuous! Good exercise if you don't want to wait for the shuttle. The shuttle came around about every 5 minutes. The drivers were nice and polite. The walk up the hill from the beach is hard, but again, doable if you don't want to wait for the shuttle. Be forewarned, other beachgoers waiting for the bus may not be courteous and have the first come, first served attitude. Be ready to jump on the bus or wait for the next one and hope your fellow guests are a little more nice. The store by the beach is not owned by Condovac and is a little more expensive than the one closer to Sol. Both have limited items. There is a bigger store down the street. We took the shuttle to the frt gate, and walked down the road to it. There were taxis waiting out front of the store to take us back to the resort for a cheap fare ($6 for 5 people!). We used Gilly's Adventures for our tour and were not disappointed. He is very nice and accomodating. We ate at a few of the beach restaurants and the food was great.
